Dieting is as popular now as it ever was. More people now want to lose those extra few pounds and shift that extra weight they are carrying. There are as many diets available as there are dieters. It can be confusing and time consuming to find a diet that actually works for you. Every person’s body is different to the next, so just because they managed to lose ten pounds on a particular diet, doesn’t mean that you will be able to as well.

The problem that destroys many people’s dieting attempts is the “snack factor.” Americans love those between-meal snacks more so than they do the big three meals themselves. So if it were possible to build a diet around this concept, around foods that actually destroy calories rather than increase them, this would be a big breakthrough.

In fact, such foods do exist. “Negative calorie foods” are food items that require more energy in the form of calories to consume them than they actually add to your system. And most of these items make perfect snacking material to boot!

Let’s be honest: “Negative calorie” is a misnomer. No food can truly have a calorie count of less than zero. What is meant by the term is that some foods have so few calories compared to the amount of energy required to digest them, that at the end of the process you’ve actually burned more calories than the food contains. So the net result is, in fact, a “negative calorie burn”. This makes them a dieter’s perfect dream food.

Equally important is how these foods make you feel. Health experts note the importance of having a feeling of fullness in making a diet successful. And most of these “negative calorie foods” do an excellent job of giving you that full feeling. As a result, you’re less likely to snack on fatty, calorie-heavy snack foods.

Some negative calorie foods are the following:

Apricots - These are sweet and satisfying, great to give your sweet tooth what it is craving without having to eat high fat foods.

Cucumbers: Pick them up at the store or grow them yourselves. Either way, you can eat these as a snack added to other meals.

Carrots: These are a perfect snack when you’re craving something with crunch.

Strawberries have such a rich, sweet flavor, and are the perfect small size, that these are a nice alternative to candy.

Watermelon: There’s no better summertime treat than this low-calorie, juicy snack.

Tomatoes are low in calories and make great additions for salads and sandwiches.

Cauliflower - Great to eat with literally anything, and can be cooked in many different ways.

Zucchini is another food that can be cooked in a variety of ways, and has only 15 calories per 100 grams.

Apples make the body work hard in order to digest it. The result is that the body easily burns the 81 measley calories that it will contribute to your system. And who doesn’t love a sweet, juicy apple?

Hot Chilli Peppers can be used as an excellent alternative to fatty dressings, on salads or sandwiches. Instead of mayonnaise on that sandwich, peppers provide a low-calorie flavor alternative.

These are just some of the negative calorie foods for you to try, foods that burn more calories than they bring in are out there, and you just have to know where to look.
