<p>When trying to achieve the illusive six pack, it&#8217; easy to get confused by all the &#8220;best ab workouts&#8221; available. You&#8217;ll likely notice that there a multitude of ab workouts to choose one, so deciphering which ones will work the best can be tricky.</p>
<p>The thing to remember is that whenever you are trying to work your core, everything works, for a certain period of time. Everything from high reps, low reps, weighted work, bodyweight work, stability ball exercises, and BOSU ball exercises - it all works until your body adapts and says, &#8220;This is easy, I&#8217;m not going to change unless you give me a new reason to adapt.&#8221;</p>
<p>Your ab training should be progressed from stable floor work with your body weight to a unstable surface with weighted work. Progressing to movements that will reduce your base of support as much as possible are the best ab workouts because they will call into play all the muscles within the core, especially those really deep that stable floor work can not target. </p>
<p>Such examples of floor ab exercises that would do this would be crunches, sit ups and leg raises. Eventually you want to do these same exercises against gravity, then a load and then on unstable surface like a stability ball. Body weight exercises like &#8220;front planks&#8221; and &#8220;side planks&#8221; should be the foundation of a core program and progressed to one arm planks in the frontal and side planes and then eventually on a stability ball or BOSU ball for further recruitment.</p>
<p>The best ab workouts to make your abs &#8220;pop&#8221; would be a variety of weighted movements. I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve skinny guys with a flat stomach but no &#8220;eye popping&#8221; abs, which is because they have not developed the actual abdominal muscle, just like every other body part. Part of getting nicely chiseled abs is going to be developing the muscles underneath the fat, and weighted ab crunches with cables or on a stability ball with a heavy dumbbell will do this best.</p>
<p>During all your ab workouts be sure to get a full stretch during the eccentric phase of your ab exercises. Going through an entire range of motion on the way up (if doing a crunch on the floor or ball) is not necessary, however, you should be &#8220;crunching&#8221; your upper abs onto your lower abs during each rep to maximize the burn, recruitment and full development. </p>
<p>The one weighted exercise you will not find in my programs is weighted side bends, as this could make you look wider in the waste, distracting from creating a lean image. </p>
<p>One concerning question most people have is regarding lower ab workouts, typically the most troubling spot. Yes, hip flexion (emphasis more so on lower abs) is important to perform and should be done first in the workout but the reality of the matter is that you cannot specifically separate your abs into upper and lower components. Whenever you perform any type of ab movement you should automatically be focusing on working both the upper and lower portion at the same time. </p>
<p>Good exercise to definitely direct a little more force into the lower area would be the progression of lying leg raises, lying leg raises on a incline and eventually hanging leg raises fully vertical. Lying leg raises on a stability pull is also an extremely challenging and advanced exercise to create razor sharp abdominals.</p>
<p>Finally, the last thing to consider is when you are going to perform your ab workout is training frequency. Again, generally speaking, the more the better assuming your abdominals have recovered. Whether you want to perform it at the end of your workout, before your workout, during your workout or on a day of it&#8217;s own is up to you. My ab workouts incorporate all methods depending on if you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced. Some theories of that warn you not to start with abs is because abs work as a synergistic muscle for so many of the other exercises you&#8217;ll do, if you pre-fatigue them before the start of the workout, you may not progress as much during the rest of your workout. I don&#8217;t agree with this and if you&#8217;re abs are your weakest link then they should be given first priority when you are the most fresh, the start of your workout.</p>
<p>Incorporating a specific ab workout is only a small part of the battle - diet, lifestyle and overall caloric expenditure through weight training and cardio are the true building blocks to creating a sexy and desired mid section.</p>

<p>Treadmill walking is an extremely easy way to help lose weight and stay healthy. A lot of people think losing weight is complicated, but this really isn&#8217;t the case. Easy fat loss is achieved when your body burns more calories through exercise than the number of calories you intake from food.</p>
<p>Some people mistakenly believe that if they walk three times a week for a short period of time, they can lose weight easily. This is a myth. Effective weight loss through walking requires you to walk at least 45 minutes or more five to six days a week.</p>
<p>In order to effectively control your weight you need to walk regularly and keep a consistent exercise schedule. You may also find that only walking on flat surfaces is not enough to help you keep excess weight away.</p>
<p>Walking on a treadmill can be an excellent way to give yourself a more thorough workout. By increasing the incline of the treadmill, you can simulate walking up hill which not only increases your heart rate, but also causes your muscles to work harder and therefore use up more fat.</p>
<p>If you engage in treadmill walking on a consistent basis, you&#8217;ll not only be able to lose the pounds, but they will stay off for good. If a treadmill walking workout tends to bore you, here are some ideas to make it more interesting:</p>
<p>Walk the Pyramid: This game challenges you both physically and mentally for a total of 30 minutes. Whenever you&#8217;re walking on your treadmill, increase the speed by .1 mph every 15 minutes. Do this for half of your workout and then decrease the speed .1 mph for the other 15 minutes.</p>
<p>1,2,3 Counting Steps: Some people count the seconds or minutes during a treadmill walk. But if numbers are your thing, you might consider counting your steps instead. Count how many steps you take for one minute, then take a break, and then count your steps for another minute. Continue doing this to the end of your workout. Over time, you&#8217;ll see the number of steps you take increase, which will be very rewarding.</p>
<p>Step and Walk: I&#8217;m sure you know how effective treadmill walking can be and all the great benefits you can get from it, but why not combine treadmill walking with another exercise to make it even easier to lose weight! Divide your workout into equal chunks, I usually break mine down in to 10 minute slots. For the first 10 minutes I do my treadmill walking, and then for the second 10 minute slot I get off the treadmill and use a stepper. If you don&#8217;t have a stepper you can easily substitute another exercise, perhaps you have an exercise bike or weights to lift.</p>
<p>Travel the World: There&#8217;s a famous scene in the movie Forest Gump where Hanks puts on a pair of shoes and just walks. I find it&#8217;s fun to map out my favorite routes around my neighborhood and then see how long it takes me to walk there on my treadmill. You can even put up photographs of local landmarks and take yourself on a virtual tour of your area!</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t be afraid to come up with your own games to make treadmill walking less boring. Not everyone is enthusiastic about exercise, but you can put a spin on things to make time go by faster.</p>

<p>My previous article on eating clean outlines simple nutrition guidelines for you. But then I got an email from a vegetarian wanting some tips.</p>
<p>Protein is definitely one of the most important &#8220;macro nutrients&#8221; you need to build muscle and to help you recover from your strength training. Most experts recommend at least 1g per pound of bodyweight each day.</p>
<p>However, most of the advice for getting protein includes eating stuff vegetarians and vegans can&#8217;t - if that describes you, read this article for muscle building nutrition advice for vegetarians and vegans</p>
<p>How Do Vegetarians &amp; Vegans Eat?</p>
<p>Most eat lots of vegetables, legumes, fruits, tofu and soy. Certain types eat eggs &amp; dairy products too. But never any animal flesh (meat, fish or poultry). Here&#8217;s a (not complete) list of types of vegetarians:</p>
<p>* Lacto-ovo Vegetarians. Does not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, consumes only dairy and egg products.</p>
<p>* Lacto Vegetarians. Eat dairy, but no eggs and no animal flesh.</p>
<p>* Ovo Vegetarians (or eggetarians). Eat eggs, but not animal flesh and dairy products.</p>
<p>* Vegans. Does not eat any animal products or byproducts.</p>
<p>Complications You&#8217;ll Encounter With Vegeterianism &amp; Veganism.</p>
<p>Vegetables and fruits are good for fiber, vitamins and minerals. Green vegetables are also good because they raise your alkalinity levels and counteract acidic foods like meat. Here&#8217;s a few &#8220;problems&#8221; you&#8217;ll run into eating like this though:</p>
<p>* Allergic reactions - if all you consume is dairy products and eggs you for protein, after that you can crash into lactose intolerance, acne, or other allergic reactions from all the dairy food</p>
<p>* Low Testosterone - meats, eggs, and dairy have saturated fat and cholesterol which increase testosterone. If your T levels are low you&#8217;ll have less muscle, less strength, less energy, lagging libido, higher body fat, and less of an &#8220;ambition&#8221;</p>
<p>Good Sources of Protein for Vegeterians &amp; Vegans</p>
<p>It&#8217;s simple when you&#8217;re lacto and/or ovo. Just don&#8217;t consume meat and follow my other eating nutritious rules to get your protein: whey protein, cheese, eggs, milk, and so on. If you&#8217;re vegan, there&#8217;s a few extra sources of protein:</p>
<p>* Beans. Black, garbanzo, hummus, kidney, fava, winged, mungo, lima </p>
<p>* Legumes. Cow peas, chick pea, snow peas, lentils, peas &#8230;</p>
<p>* Whole Grains. Breads, granola, quinoa, oats, brown rice &#8230;</p>
<p>* Protein Powder. Soy protein, hemp protein, rice protein </p>
<p>* Milk. Soy milk, rice milk, plant milk, coconut milk, almond milk &#8230;</p>
<p>* Soy. Soy beans, tofu, soy cheese, deli-style soy meats, soy milk, </p>
<p>* Nuts. Cashew, peanuts, peanut butter, walnuts, almonds &#8230;</p>

So, you can protect your health and still lose the pregnancy weight.   The trick is to purchase these foods at a farmers market or for even better freshness and flavor, go to a pick-it-yourself orchard. <p>Look around you at the food you eat. Most of that everyday fare is actually taking you to the brink of some real serious heart problems! The culprit is the high level of cholesterol in almost everything you consume. Understanding the cholesterol mechanism is of utmost importance to make an intelligent selection of the foods to include in your diet, and ultimately on the quality of your life.</p>
<p>Health magazines and sites warn you about the dangers of cholesterol. They say that high levels of cholesterol in your diet can and do lead to serious heart problems like strokes, heart attacks, heart disease, and artery disease. These serious ailments and conditions are further aggravated if you smoke, or suffer from hypertension and obesity, or have a hereditary condition.</p>
<p>The thing to understand is that when we speak of cholesterol, we are actually speaking of three different things: good cholesterol (HDL), bad cholesterol (LDL), and triglycerides. Triglycerides are not really cholesterol but are very intimately associated with regular cholesterol. Now not all these things are unhealthy or disease causing. In fact the body requires cholesterol and triglycerides too. The trick is in identifying the good ones and including them in your daily diet, and simultaneously avoiding the unhealthy ones. Fish cholesterol and triglycerides is good. Omega-3 fats found in a number of fish are recommended by physicians and nutritionists for patients suffering from diseases caused by cholesterol, because Omega-3 actually helps to reduce the level of bad cholesterol.</p>
<p>A further twist in this tale is that, more often than not, we wrongly blame specific foods for high levels of bad cholesterol. The cooking method, the medium used for cooking, and the other foods that we consume along with the specific food contribute significantly to aggravated cholesterol levels. As an example, eggs were standard breakfast fare once. Then they were declared &#8216;Bad!&#8217; because they contained cholesterol. Further research has shown that we should avoid the yolk of the egg and not the white! So now we&#8217;re seeing eggs dished up with most of the yolk removed.</p>
<p>These swings in favor of or against cholesterol-containing foods confuse the man on the street. Eggs are not the main culprit in raising the level of bad cholesterol. The thing to avoid is not eggs by themselves, but to say no to the large helpings of bacon, cheese and sausages on the side. Paying attention to the way in which your food is cooked will pay off more than simply concentrating on including this and excluding that food from your diet.</p>
<p>The way the food is cooked is just as much to blame for high cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. Even foods innocent of any trace of cholesterol, can be transformed into real dangerous dishes. If the food is fried in oil or margarine then the goodness of the food is overpowered by the saturated fats present in the cooking medium. Red meats, poultry products, and dairy products contain high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. So it&#8217;s best to stay away from fried stuff and animal products.</p>
<p>Saturated fats are a deadly ingredient in your diet, making the liver increase production of LDL and triglycerides which leads to artery blockage and strokes.</p>
<p>There is no sense in banning specific food items from your diet. It makes more practical sense to maintain a moderate approach. Have everything, but in moderation. Keep a strict vigil on what you eat and how it is cooked. A fresh potato salad is good but French fries is not! Choose to grill your food rather than fry it. Have plenty of fresh vegetables. These very ordinary precautions will help to keep your heart beating perfectly for many, many years!</p>
